Today, I am honored to share with you a really fun and easy pattern from Chrissy at Muse of the Morning patterns. Chrissy has a variety of patterns for sale and I am part of her pattern blog hop. Today, I present to you the Sling It Mama Take Along Bag Very Easy Purse. Even though I was gifted this purse pattern for my participating in the hop, I am very happy to give it a great review.
This is really a very quick bag to make and the pattern is very well done. Chrissy gives ample directions and photos so it is simple to follow. The finished purse is a great size for busy women. It ended up being approximately 11" X 10" X 3" with a lot of room inside. The strap is 17" which makes it fit just perfectly under your arm.
To sew this cute purse, I used a home decorator fabric from my local fabric store for the outer and a similar weight home deco fabric I had in my stash for the inner. Chrissy recommends heavier weight woven fabrics, so this worked perfectly.
The pattern has only four pieces and goes together beautifully. I really love the way it turned out and the design is great. The bottom and strap pieces curve perfectly. It is a very well-designed purse. Chrissy has a very tricky way of putting the inside and outside and strap together that threw me for a loop when I first looked at the directions. But, the pattern is so well-written that I trusted her way would work and it did. I sewed the pieces together and turned the purse right side out and it looks great.
As you can see, I added a button to my purse. I had the big pink button and I felt like I need more color on my bag. I love color! I tend to want to add ribbon trim to all my little girl sewing so I guess I am a bit compulsive. I just really needed this bag to have something on it. The button is not part of the pattern but I like it.
As you can see below, this bag holds my large wallet, keys, and zipper pouch just fine. There is ample room for my phone and anything else I might want to add. Since we banned plastic bags in town last year, I can even use this purse for my small shopping needs. Perfect.

DeleteNice bag, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI love the added button, I think it's the perfect personal touch to add here :)
I think that using upholstaery/deco fabrics for both layers adds a nice structure to it, so it doesn't require interlining or interfacings, true?
Did you get my email with the interview? I hope yes!
Yes I got your email Irene.
DeleteI did still use the interfacing as the pattern calls for and it gives it a nice shape.
Oh so cute! :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love that bag! And the pink button is great, I'm all about a little pop of extra color!
ReplyDeleteyes, a pop of color is always great. It's like sprinkles on a sundae. ;)
DeleteCute bag! I love that it is only a few pieces. One could have multiples, one for every occasion.
